I am a fourth-year undergraduate student at Queen’s University specializing in Environmental Toxicology. My research interests stem from my experiences growing up in a small town along Lake Erie, where I discovered my passion for protecting our freshwater ecosystems. Presently, I am investigating the potential impacts of Canadian oil sands operations. I have recently joined the QE3 lab as a SWEP student to examine the effects of naphthenic acid fraction components (NAFC) found in oil sands wastewaters on freshwater fish. I will be continuing my research throughout the school year as an Honours Thesis student to investigate the prevalence of cardiac abnormalities caused by embryonic exposure to NAFCs in fathead minnows.
